Nebraska Christmas
McDonald's Playland
On our way back to Nebraska for our extended family Christmas we stopped by a McDonald's Playland to let Isaac run around and burn some energy.

Vanilla Bean anyone?
Beer Brewing- We are in the midst of brewing the Donnie Darko Stout. We decide to add a touch of vanilla flavor to this stout. Matt had some vanilla beans that he had intended to add to his cherry vanilla porter before the carboy crack and we lost the porter. I had never seen a vanilla bean before and just assumed they looked something like a coffee bean. Nope, they are long skinny beans as seen in the picture below. My cell phone is used a reference for size.
When you cut open the bean there is a mushy black compound. If you have ever bought real vanilla bean ice cream you see dark specks in the white ice cream. That is the inside of a vanilla bean. It smelled delicious!
We added the vanilla beans to two shots of vodka. The vodka helps extract the vanilla flavor so it blends better with the beer.
Here is close up of the vanilla beans in the vodka. We planned to add this to the beer the following day, but this container had a slight mishap and was knocked to the ground. We are currently waiting for more vanilla beans to arrive to re-extract some more vanilla flavor.
Turkey Bowl XII
It is Thanksgiving, and that means 2-3 days of eating, sleeping, and watching football. We continued our tradition of playing a tackle football game the day after Thanksgiving to burn off some of the calories and to recall the fond memories of when we were faster, thinner, and able to field a competitive team. This was the twelfth year of the Turkey Bowl. As I was preparing for this years game (drinking beer and eating turkey) I took some time to watch footage of our game last year. The thing that jumped right out at me as how slow we all are when we are playing. It SEEMS like everything is moving fast but when seen from the neutral camera, we show our age. The average age of the players is now almost 30. Although there was one 20 year old kid there this year. He had the edge of being a decade younger than the rest of us.

Soap Anyone?
Santa Isaac
We had the idea to take some Christmas pictures early with the hopes of getting a good one for the annual Christmas letter. We probably took about 50 pictures, and these are the best we were able to take that day. Isaac was not in a cooperative mood.
To get Isaac to sit still we had to give him something he was interested in but the downside to that is then he doesn't look at the camera.
Pretty good picture if I wasn't in it and you could see Isaac better. Oh well, the scene looks good. Bye the way, the house might look clean but all we did is push all the toys behind the camera. So one half of the room is spotless, and other half is a disaster area that you couldn't walk through.
Isaac giving Mommy a furbert (when you stick you mouth on someones stomach and blow)
We really liked this picture but decided not to use it because you can't see his face. Something very innocent about the picture.
Isaac and his broom. For whatever reason Isaac loves to sweep. We had to buy him his own broom so that we could use our to clean. Every time we took it out he would yell until he got to sweep. He even finds the brooms at restaurants and starts sweeping with them. But he draws the line at vacuum cleaners, those he is afraid of and won't go near them except to knock them over.
