Turkey Bowl XII

It is Thanksgiving, and that means 2-3 days of eating, sleeping, and watching football. We continued our tradition of playing a tackle football game the day after Thanksgiving to burn off some of the calories and to recall the fond memories of when we were faster, thinner, and able to field a competitive team. This was the twelfth year of the Turkey Bowl. As I was preparing for this years game (drinking beer and eating turkey) I took some time to watch footage of our game last year. The thing that jumped right out at me as how slow we all are when we are playing. It SEEMS like everything is moving fast but when seen from the neutral camera, we show our age. The average age of the players is now almost 30. Although there was one 20 year old kid there this year. He had the edge of being a decade younger than the rest of us.

Here is most of the guys at the pregame ritual of drinking beer at the Wharf bar. The bar has come to expect us and even stocks our favorite kind of beer so they don't run out. The beer helps limber us up and also numb some of the nerves so the hits don't quite hurt as much.

Mike brought some Minn. friends to join in the game. We normally try to bring some extra players as it has become harder to get everyone back at the same time.

Here is the losing orange team.

Here is the victorious black team. We won 8 touchdowns to 7. This year was a defensive struggle for most of the game.

Here is all the players together.
This years MVP goes to ......Aaron Zimmerman-Defensive Coordinator for the black team. Way to go Zim! He gets the MVP trophy for the year, which is a turkey foot.

Jake took some good action shot during the game but I haven't received the pictures yet. So check back to see some in game action.
