The German friends of Derek and Nicole decided to pull a prank on them. They (will the help of us American's) blew up 200 balloons and put them into their cabin bedroom. Here is the end result. As an added bonus, the Germans (not us), filled 5-8 balloons with water. So if Derek and Nicole just started popping them at random, they were in for a wet surprise.
They also filled the shower with balloons. We also flipped everything in there cabin 180 degrees. When I say everything, I mean it. Anything that wasn't bolted down was flipped. We forgot to take pictures of our handy work.
Here is the outside of the castle. To the left is where they had a champagne reception after the wedding ceremony.
The room where the ceremony was performed. It was done in both English and German by Nicole's childhood friend, Marina.
There is a German tradition of cutting a log after you are married. It signifies overcoming your first obstacle together. They started out with the idea that it would be easy to cut the log in half, but soon realize that they would have to put some muscle into it.
For their guest book they had everyone take a picture with a picture frame around their heads. This is our picture.
Another tradition they have is to cut a heart out of a bed sheet. Whoever finishes their half of the heart first will be the dominate person in the relationship. Nicole received a very large set of scissors, where as Derek received a pair of scissors that you get when you are in pre-school. The kind that can't cut a piece of paper.
We were seated with 2 other German couples. The two ladies were in the same Masters program as Derek. Speaking with them was interesting considering they all learned English in different places. Samuel spoke British English(pictured above), Sven and Marina spoke Australian English, and Ruth and Sebastian spoke German English.
